North Dakota is a landlocked U.S. state located in the Upper Midwest, named after the indigenous Dakota Sioux people. It shares its northern border with the Canadian provinces of Saskatchewan and Manitoba, while to the east, it borders the U.S. state of Minnesota. To the south lies South Dakota, and to the west, the state is bordered by Montana. Furthermore, North Dakota is part of the Great Plains region, known for its vast prairies, steppe, temperate savanna, badlands, and farmland. Despite its large land area, North Dakota remains one of the least populous and most sparsely populated states in the country. The state’s capital is Bismarck, whereas Fargo, the most populous city, accounts for nearly a fifth of North Dakota’s population. Interestingly, both Bismarck and Fargo are among the fastest-growing cities in the U.S., although about half of the state’s residents continue to live in rural areas.
Historically, what is now North Dakota was home to various Native American tribes for thousands of years. Among these were the Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara, who lived along the Missouri River; the Ojibwe and Cree in the northeastern regions; and several Sioux groups, including the Assiniboine, Yankton, Wahpeton, and Teton, who inhabited the rest of the state. European explorers and traders first arrived in the early 18th century, primarily seeking to profit from the region’s lucrative fur trade.
In the early 19th century, the United States acquired the region, and over time, it was gradually settled despite growing resistance from displaced Native American tribes. The establishment of the Dakota Territory in 1861 marked a significant milestone, as it became central to the settlement of American pioneers. Moreover, the Homestead Act of 1862 spurred rapid population growth and development, as farming, particularly wheat cultivation, began to replace the once-dominant fur trade.

The Apostille Convention simplifies the certification of public (including notarized) documents for use in countries that have joined the convention. Officials in the jurisdiction where the document was executed must certify documents intended for use in participating countries and their territories.
The Apostille Convention requires consecutive numbering for all Apostilles, assigning individual numbers to each one issued. The standard Apostille includes a seal and 10 mandatory references: the name of the country from which the document originates, the name and capacity of the person signing the document, or, for unsigned documents, the authority that applied the seal or stamp. It also includes the place and date of certification, the issuing authority, the certificate number, the seal or stamp of the issuing authority, and the signature of the issuing authority.
